Led technical operations for a production environment serving more than 2M users, while remaining hands-on with the systems, pipelines and databases behind it. Led a three-person technical team, one developer and two TechOps engineers, and owned monitoring, release readiness and the operational health of production day to day.

Ownership

  • Designed and built monitoring and automated alerting across production services, pipelines and data flows.
  • Built an automated data-quality framework in SQL and Python, running across Prefect-orchestrated production pipelines supporting more than 100 production tables.
  • Owned release management and release readiness - coordinating validation, verifying backend and database behavior before release, and validating post-release behavior and defects.
  • Led QA and test planning across backend systems and data pipelines, covering functional, integration and regression testing, and ran the SQL and Postman-based validation behind release verification.
  • Administered identity and access through JumpCloud: user lifecycle, groups, permissions and RBAC, including onboarding and offboarding.
  • Built operational tooling and dashboards in Retool to make routine investigation faster for the whole team.
  • Directed the team’s technical work and mentored engineers while continuing to take on production work myself.
  • Worked directly with engineering, product, business stakeholders, executives, vendors and B2B and B2C clients on technical delivery.

Impact

  • Reduced production data incidents by more than 30% through the automated SQL and Python data-quality framework.
  • Changed issue detection from next-day discovery to real-time visibility by introducing automated monitoring and alerting.

Hands-on technical operations across production and staging for a large-scale production environment: backend and database testing, investigation of production issues, validation of data flows and integrations, and the operational analysis that supported both.

Ownership

  • Operated and validated production and staging systems as part of day-to-day technical operations, including data cleansing and debugging scheduled and background jobs.
  • Ran backend and database testing across production data systems including PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Snowflake and Redis.
  • Investigated production issues and defects through SQL and NoSQL queries, logs and API testing, tracking them in Jira and working directly with developers through to resolution.
  • Validated ETL runs and data flows, checking that data arrived complete and correct between systems.
  • Validated API-based integrations, including request and response verification with Postman.
  • Produced operational data analysis and reporting to support investigation and decision-making.
  • Investigated fraud and abuse patterns in production data and contributed to the hardening work that followed.

Impact

  • Contributed to an approximately 15% reduction in abuse activity through fraud and abuse investigation and the resulting hardening.
